Victorian Concert Bands

Australian Youth Band This dynamic group from Melbourne's East features a marching band, concert band and 15-piece percussion ensemble. They perform at a range of events and tour extensively.

Bendigo & District Concert Band A band from Bendigo, to the North West of Melbourne. The group is active in the community and competes at a high level.

Boroondara Symphonic Band A premier community symphonic band in Melbourne's Inner East. The performance programs are extensive and the venues are impressive.

Croydon Wind Symphony This group from Melbourne's East features a wind symphony, brass band and a concert band. The range of ensembles allows players to learn and progress alongside others of similar standard.

Eltham Concert Band This group in Melbourne's North East is active in the community and plays at many festivals and community venues including carols and retirement villages.

Geelong Concert Band A band from Geelong, to the South West of Melbourne. The group is well established and competes to a high standard.

Grainger Wind Symphony A premier wind symphony from Melbourne's East, named after Percy Grainger, one of Australia's foremost performing musicians and composers. The group also runs workshops for young players, as well as performing in smaller groups, such as a brass quintet, a flute trio, a woodwind group and a dance band.

Heidelberg Wind Ensemble This wind ensemble in Melbourne's East is modelled on the Eastman Wind Ensemble concept, and requires high standard performers on all instruments. The minimum age for audition is 18 and, as such, is intended to be an ensemble for the mature musician.

Hobsons Bay City Band A community band in Melbourne's West that plays at a range of events including festivals, school fetes, markets and shopping centres.

Mansfield and District Orchestra This group in Mansfield, 200km North East of Melbourne, includes an orchestra, training band and chamber ensemble.

Melbourne Rainbow Band This Melbourne group provides a musical environment free from prejudice and discrimination and promotes the gay and lesbian community to the wider population.

Melbourne University Engineering Music Society This is a large, active student group at Melbourne University. The club currently supports an orchestra, concert band, two stage bands and a jazz choir.

Monash Concert Band A community group based in Melbourne's South East. Performances take advantage of nearby Monash University, the Alexander Theatre and the Robert Blackwood Hall.

Monash University Philharmonic Society "The Phil" strongly promotes music within Monash University and the Monash area in Melbourne's South East, regularly giving concerts on campus and in other venues nearby. It is comprised of a number of ensembles playing Jazz, Classical, Concert Band and Chamber music.

Southern Area Concert Band A large community band based in Melbourne's outer South East, it comprises a concert band, training band, stage band and events band. The bands offer a broad range of musicians the opportunity to perform at a range of venues and compete at band championships.

American Bandmasters Association International body dedicated to promoting bands through annual Conventions, publications and awards.

Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) ABODA is Australia's premier in-service support organisation for instrumental music teachers and community band and orchestra directors.

National Band Association (USA) The largest band directors' professional organisation in the world.

National Band Council of Australia National organisation representing the Brass and Concert Bands of Australia, dedicated to the promotion and development of banding throughout the country.

Victorian Bands League The VBL is the association of community bands in Victoria, Australia and provides competition, training and representation for its members.

World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) International organisation promoting band music through conferences, scholarships and exchanges. It exposes its members to new worlds of repertoire, musical culture, people and places.
